Morecambe FC find themselves on the brink of destruction after months of trouble, culminating in the shock news this week that they have been thrown out on the National League.
Their membership was suspended with immediate effect after failing to meet financial deadlines ahead of the new season, which gets underway on August 9 – just days away.
“It was decided further sanctions must be imposed, with the club’s membership to be suspended with immediate effect,” the National League said in a statement on Monday.
“The committee will meet again on Wednesday, 20 August to determine if outstanding items have been satisfied, and to decide the club’s ability to retain membership in the competition.”

The Gypsy King lives in Morecambe in a £1.7million mansion, as seen on the Netflix documentary At Home With the Furys, and has often talked up his love of the town and the football club.
Ahead of the 2022/23 season, Fury signed a sponsorship deal with the club – who were then in League One, two leagues above their National League position now.
The Gypsy King brand appeared on the team’s shorts and in the corner of the club’s stadium, there is a two-storey building that houses the Tyson Fury Foundation.
There is a gym there, as well as boxing, football and rugby facilities and Fury also owns the 3G pitches next to the stadium.
At the time of his sponsorship, Fury expressed his interest in purchasing the club.
Well, now is your time to shine Tyson, when your local football club need you more than ever.
The Gypsy King has been pointedly silent during Morecambe’s woes throughout the year.

There is no doubting that the former heavyweight champion does not have the money, having boxed big-name stars including Deontay Wilder, Francis Ngannou and Oleksandr Usyk – all of which were mega-PPV events.
And after announcing his retirement in January, Fury does not exactly have much on his plate at the moment – so why not give the people of Morecambe an inkling of hope and save their club?
Fury was keen to maintain on his Netflix documentary that he was a man of the people and, to his credit, set up a campaign to stop littering in the streets of Morecambe.
