The result continues what has been described as an unusual Six Nations campaign, with form proving difficult to predict throughout the tournament.

The opening 40 minutes represented Wales’s finest performance since the 2023 World Cup, with the home side dominating in virtually every department.

Rhys Carre powered over for the opening score after Dewi Lake initiated a quick tap, with the 130kg prop driving through Finn Russell to touch down.

Josh Adams added a second try following impressive phase play, with Sam Costelow distributing wide after effective carries from Eddie James and Lake.

Joe Hawkins was shown a yellow card early in the contest for a high challenge on Gregor Brown, though the incident was deemed low danger.

Kyle Steyn crossed for Scotland’s sole first-half response.

Scotland’s revival began when Russell touched down following an exhaustive 27-phase attack, dummying past Rees-Zammit and Aaron Wainwright to reduce the arrears.

Darcy Graham then produced a moment of opportunism directly from the restart, collecting a kick that sailed over Alex Mann while Welsh defenders had their backs turned.

The winger’s score was his 35th in test rugby, drawing him level with Duhan van der Merwe as Scotland’s all-time leading try scorer.

Turner completed the comeback by dotting down from a driving maul with five minutes remaining, before Russell coolly slotted the conversion to put Scotland ahead 26-23.

The closing stages saw Scotland expertly manage the game, refusing to spread the ball wide as they wound down the clock.

Wales secured a shove at a crucial scrum but wheeled around, conceding a penalty that prompted celebrations among the Scottish players.

Matt Fagerson had earlier dropped the restart without pressure, gifting Wales an attacking opportunity they could not convert.

Scotland’s lineout, which had been problematic, improved at the vital moments as they secured possession near halfway.

Russell’s final kick drifted wide but carried sufficient distance to find touch and end the contest.

The Welsh were left to contemplate what might have been after squandering their commanding half-time advantage, but fans will be enocuraged by that performance.
