WWE icon John Cena has candidly revealed that fans were the driving force behind his decision to undergo a hair transplant.

The 17-time world champion, who is currently on his WWE retirement tour, said he was inspired to take action after audience members repeatedly highlighted his hair loss with signs and chants during shows.


Cena, now 48, underwent the procedure in November 2024 and returned to action just two months later in January, as part of what’s expected to be his final run with WWE.

Speaking to People Magazine, Cena explained: “When I’m trying to hide my hair loss the audience is just bringing it to light, like: ‘You’re going bald’.

“I used it as a thing of the point of the story we were in just because I also want the audience to know I see your signs, the one that says ‘Bald John Cena’. I get it but I also know it’s something I’m going through.

“I want to be genuine with that audience letting me know, either do some work or shave your head. They pushed me into going to see what my options were.

“I ended up getting a transplant last November and the crazy thing is, I came back for the retirement tour starting in January.

John Cena’s bald spot had been noticed by WWE fans before his hair transplant

Cena most recently appeared at WWE SummerSlam, where he was involved in an angle that saw him ambushed by a returning Brock Lesnar, potentially setting up a future showdown during his farewell tour.

The 48-year-old’s impact on professional wrestling is immense. Since debuting in WWE in 2002, he has become one of the most decorated superstars in the company’s history.

He is a record 17-time world champion (including WWE and World Heavyweight titles), surpassing legends like Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan in modern wrestling history.
