WNBA star Cameron Brink stunned fans when she revealed the unconventional way her now-fiancé caught her attention.

The Los Angeles Sparks forward, 24, has been engaged to her fiancé, Ben Felter, since 2024 after they met during their days at Stanford University.

However, it has now emerged that Felter’s method of asking out the basketball player was unorthodox, to say the least.

Rather than stick to the modern-day means of sliding into her DMs on Instagram, Felter opted for an alternative approach.

While they were still classmates at Stanford, where Brink was a star on the Cardinals’ women’s basketball team and Felter was on the rowing team, he chose to pursue her via email.

‘Hey Cameron, Wanted to chat you up but I think [DMs] are a bit creepy. Not that an email is much better so here’s my number,’ Felter wrote in the email, which contained the subject line, ‘Attempting to mingle.’

The Sparks Forward Shared The Email That Felter Sent Her While They Were At Stanford

Brink shared a screenshot of the email to TikTok last week, writing: ‘This wasn’t supposed to be a love song.’

She then added a separate photo of the happy couple sharing a romantic kiss, adding: ‘But I guess it is now.’

Yet, basketball fans were unconvinced by the love story with some even branding the move from Felter ‘creepy.’

‘So let me get this straight… this man really said, DMs are creepy, and then proceeded to… send an email?’ one social media user asked. ‘Sir. You didn’t avoid the creep allegations, you just upgraded them to corporate level.’

‘This man really bypassed the entire [DM] era and went straight to professional correspondence. Emailing your crush is either the bravest or most unhinged thing a person can do and it worked,’ claimed another.

A third questioned: ‘Are we debating whether personal emails are charming or creepy compared to DMs?’

‘Bruh who still uses email to flirt and trying to get women?? He’s too old for technology. Someone better teach him how to use Instagram,’ added another.

The Hoops Star Has Been Off The Market Since 2021 When She First Started Dating Felter

Despite fans’ criticism, the move clearly worked as Felter popped the question in October 2024.

The couple are believed to have started dating back in 2021, three years before Ben popped the question on a rooftop terrace at the five-star Shangri-La Hotel in Paris.

Brink and Felter’s love life has been kept largely under wraps over the years. However, the hoops star did open up on her dating life when she shared her dating ‘icks’ last year.

‘Maybe it’s the Stanford girl in me, but grammar is very important to me,’ Brink said on her ‘Straight To Cam’ podcast. ‘And if I see something with bad grammar, or someone misspells something, it really irks me.’
