Richard Keys was forced off air with beIN Sports after the UK government warned Brits abroad to ‘take immediate shelter’ following the US bombing of Iran.

The former Sky Sports presenter took to X, writing: ‘Thank you all for your messages. It was a bit lively earlier. I don’t have space to express my feelings about that idiot Trump. No show today.

‘You’ll be in the capable hands of our colleagues in London. Thoughts & prayers for everyone in our region. Ramadan Kareem.’

His comment came after the UK government’s foreign office had issued a stark warning.

‘Due to reported missile attacks, British nationals in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and United Arab Emirates should immediately shelter in place,’ came the instruction.

‘Remain indoors in a secure location, avoid all travel and follow instructions from the local authorities.’

Keys, who has lived in Qatar for 13 years while working as a presenter for the sports channel, has been told by the network that his contract will not be renewed when it expires at the end of the football season but is still working up until that point.

On Saturday morning, however, he was unable to take to the airwaves, with the frightening instability in the Middle East causing chaos in the region.

The US and Israel launched an attack on Iran, with President Donald Trump warning ‘major combat operations’ are taking place, as they aim for regime change.

Israel say Iran have launched retaliatory strikes of their own and explosions have been heard in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait.

Keys and beIN are based in Qatar and the presenter made it clear what he thought of the military action, calling Trump an ‘idiot’.
