Devin Vassell scored 28 points to help the San Antonio Spurs defeat the Detroit Pistons 114-103 on Monday night in a physical matchup.
Victor Wembanyama added 21 points, 17 rebounds and six blocks as the Spurs extended their winning streak to nine games. Despite shooting 6-of-16, Wembanyama praised the effort.
“It’s definitely a night where we confirmed progression and confirmed potential as well,” Wembanyama said to ESPN.
San Antonio made 18 of 40 shots from three point range, with multiple players scoring in double figures.
“We know how talented Wemby is and how impactful he can be, but it’s not a one-man show over there,” Pistons coach J.B. Bickerstaff said, adding: “They have a bunch of talented perimeter players.”
“That sparked a lot of energy on our team because we’re not going to back down,” Castle said.
Wembanyama described Detroit’s style as “bully ball” and welcomed the challenge.
“They are going to test your toughness. Detroit just toes the line. I don’t think they cross it”, said Spurs coach Mitch Johnson.
