Italy 2026 proved a successful Winter Olympics for Great Britain after the nation scooped its highest ever medal haul: three golds, a silver and a bronze.
Reigning world champion Matt Weston won GB’s first medal, a gold, with a domineering performance in the men’s skeleton.
Weston then became the first Briton to secure two golds in a single Winter Games after victory in the mixed team skeleton alongside Tabitha Stoecker.
Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale brought Great Britain’s other first place finish with a gold in the mixed team snowboard cross.
The men’s curling team of Bruce Mouat, Grant Hardie, Hammy McMillan and Bobby Lammie brought home a silver medal after losing out in a close-run final against the Canadians.

Meanwhile Zoe Atkin boosted the nation’s medal tally on the final day by winning bronze in the women’s freeski halfpipe.
For Weston, it has been a transformative trip to Italy. He only took up the sport by chance in 2017 after attending a talent ID day where it was found his height, speed and power metrics made him a natural for skeleton.
That he won the individual gold on Friday elevated him into rarefied company for British Winter Olympians and, such was his surprise, he scrambled to find his medal upon Saturday morning to ensure it wasn’t a dream. It had been stashed in his sock drawer.
‘There’s some great names in the British Olympic history. I think to even consider putting my name next to those is a massive honour,’ Weston said after earning a second gold
‘Obviously the individual one has a special place in my heart, it’s everything you dream about in the sport, but now we have had the introduction of the team race, this was another goal.’
