
Australia have been knocked out of the 2026 T20 World Cup after Zimbabwe’s clash against Ireland was called off due to rain.
Ireland have also been eliminated from the tournament after officials in Pallekele deemed that no play was possible.
Both Ireland and Zimbabwe will be awarded one point as a result.
Australia’s hopes of qualifying for the Super Eights were left hanging by a thread, after the 2021 champions suffered an eight-wicket defeat by Sri Lanka on Monday.
Mitchell Marsh’s side needed Ireland to claim victory against Zimbabwe on Tuesday and secure a convincing victory against Oman in their final group-stage clash on Friday, but their hopes of a miracle were washed away by the rain.
