One YouTube star has successfully parlayed his popular channel showing breakdowns and scouting reports on players into an actual scouting job in the NBA.
For the past seven years, Keandre Ashely has run the popular ‘Hoop Intellect’ YouTube channel which has led to over 400 videos on the scouting reports of pro basketball players and up-and-coming prospects.
But now, Ashely is going to take his abilities and apply them in a full-time job with an unnamed NBA team.
‘Super blessed and excited to say I’ve accepted a scouting position with an NBA team!’ said Ashely, whose channel has just short of 60,000 subscribers.
‘Big thanks to everybody who has supported Hoop Intellect over the years. Can’t say it enough, man.
‘Been amazing to grow with this & interact with so many through the game.’

Another scout, Owen Phillips, is shutting his newsletter down after being hired by the Nuggets
Ashely is not the only content creator with a scouting lens who was recently hired by an NBA team.
On the same day, Owen Phillips – a scout who runs The F5 newsletter on Substack – announced on Thursday that he is shutting down his publication after being hired as a Senior Basketball Analyst for the Denver Nuggets.
While he said he’s shutting the newsletter down, Phillips said he is keeping his archive up ‘from not until forever’.
Phillips previously paused his newsletter back in 2021 when he was hired by the New York Knicks.
