Wayne Rooney digs out Alexander Isak and Yoane Wissa over transfer disputes: ‘Very disrespectful’

Former England captain Wayne Rooney has launched scathing attacks on the behaviour of two Premier League strikers embroiled in transfer disputes.

The Manchester United legend condemned both Alexander Isak and Yoane Wissa during his appearance on The Wayne Rooney Show, a new BBC podcast.

The striker’s determination to secure a move to Liverpool has created significant tension, with the Reds having seen their £110 million offer rejected nineteen days ago.

Brentford’s Wissa received even harsher criticism, with Rooney branding his social media actions “very disrespectful”.

The Newcastle striker’s situation has deteriorated significantly since Liverpool submitted their substantial bid for his services.

Isak has refused to participate in training sessions with his teammates, a stance that prompted Rooney to state unequivocally: “If I’m a Newcastle player I don’t want Isak back.”

The Swedish international subsequently released a statement claiming that “promises were broken and trust is lost” at St James’ Park.

Rooney emphasised that whilst transfer requests are commonplace in football, there are professional standards that must be maintained.

“You can’t go on strike, can’t not turn up for training and train with your team-mates,” Rooney explained on his podcast.

Rooney reserved his harshest condemnation for Wissa’s social media conduct, describing the striker’s decision to erase all Brentford-related content from his Instagram profile as particularly offensive.

The Congolese forward has unfollowed his current club and deleted photographs documenting his time at the Community Stadium.

“I think Wissa is in a worse position than Isak is purely for that,” Rooney stated during the podcast recording.

The Bees rejected Newcastle’s £40 million offer for their striker, who departed early from pre-season preparations and was omitted from Thomas Frank’s squad for their defeat at Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

“For Wissa to just un-follow the club and take all his pictures down of a club who’ve helped you progress as a player…” Rooney remarked, expressing his dismay at the 28-year-old’s actions.

“I think these players are like kids now, or they’re very badly advised in what they’re doing because I know agents have influence.

“A lot of people have their father or the brother as an agent now.

And sometimes the right thing or the right decision is not always the one from the player’s point of view.

“You’ve got friends in there who you play with, you have fans who are paying a lot of money to support and you can’t just walk out on it.”
