Matchday eleven of the Premier League season is almost upon us and that means one thing – it’s time to play Predictor!

The weekend kicks off with a replay of last season’s Europa League final as Man United take on Tottenham Hotspur in north London. Then there’s just the two 3pm kick-offs – Everton against Fulham and West Ham’s clash with Burnley. Saturday evening once again plays host to two fixtures with Sunderland hosting league leaders Arsenal and later Chelsea taking on manager-less Wolves.
There’s a whopping five 2pm kick-offs on Sunday afternoon with Crystal Palace welcoming Brighton to Selhurst Park, Aston Villa taking on the in-form Bournemouth, Brentford hosing Newcastle United and Sean Dyche’s Nottingham Forest clashing with Leeds. It’s then time for the weekend’s blockbuster – Man City against Liverpool at the Etihad.

There’s an old adage that dictates at least one team must be the Premier League’s crisis club at any given time – both Manchester City and Liverpool have held that mantle at times in recent months.

Yet Pep Guardiola and Arne Slot both go into this Sunday’s meeting at the Etihad Stadium full of confidence after recent wins.
Liverpool, after six defeats in seven and 10 games without a clean sheet, are back to winning ways with victories over Aston Villa and Real Madrid. All the criticism, reaction and predictions for their season look rather silly now.
Manchester City, meanwhile, had a bad couple of games at the start of the season but have lost just one of their last 13. Erling Haaland is in the form of his life, Phil Foden is (nearly) back to his best and the two Nicos, O’Reilly and Gonzalez, look classy. Rayan Cherki is not bad, either.
So how will this one go on Sunday? I am going to go with a draw. Although both of these teams have shown they can defend if needed, I still do not trust either of them not to leak goals. Let’s go with a score draw.
The other big game is Tottenham hosting Manchester United, a repeat of the Europa League final. I can’t work out either of these teams – sometimes I watch them and they are brilliant, sometimes they are awful.
But I do like the looks of Ruben Amorim’s system with Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha now getting better and better. With that in mind, plus Spurs’s leaky defence, I am going with an away win for United.
I am also going for an away win for Arsenal at Sunderland, although it would be a great story if Granit Xhaka popped up with a goal against his old club. The Gunners don’t concede goals, though, it would seem.
Early-season form often clouds perceptions of teams and Everton’s good start has probably brought them credit when, in reality, they have won just one of their last eight games. But I am backing them to return to winning ways here, at home to 15th-placed Fulham.
I am also going with Chelsea to beat Wolves, Newcastle to return to winning ways away at Brentford and Brighton to win the M23 Derby away at Crystal Palace, who have struggled after all of their Thursday night Europa Conference League fixtures this season.
